Ficus nittida is known for its thick, leathery, oval-shaped leaves that are a rich, glossy green. The tree grows rapidly and can reach 10 to 15 meters (or more) in height under ideal conditions, forming a wide, umbrella-shaped canopy that provides ample shade. This makes it highly suitable for use as a shade tree, windbreak, or privacy screen in gardens and along streets or walkways.

The tree’s structure is also ideal for shaping. It can be grown as a multi-trunked or single-trunked specimen and is often pruned into ornamental forms such as spheres or columns. Its dense foliage allows for easy sculpting into formal hedges or topiary.
